Rated 1 out of 5 by from Looked good for 3 weeks-now awful I used this on a new deck. I wanted this done right so though I could DIY the project, I hired professional painters to prep and stain. We followed everything direction and recommendation to a T. It went on great and looked beautiful. Within a couple of weeks, the water stopped beading. Now, nine months later, the end of each plank is peeling, and I can’t get it clean no matter how hard I scrub, or which cleaner I use. It’s a dark brown - wenge - now covered with gray dirt. This new porch deck was a huge project and nine months later I am reading that I have to strip this stain and start again. Choosing this was a huge mistake.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Lasts 1 Year at Best I bought this October 2016. In less than a year, the stain was blackening, greening, and chipping. I powerwashed it yesterday, and the stain came off with the algae. I only have a 1600 PS electric powerwasher and did not use it close to the deck. You can see where our grill was the staining is perfect, this stuff just doesn't hold up at all. Definitely not a "lifetime guarantee". This stuff is disappointing.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible stain Couldn't be less satisfied. Followed the directions to the T. Used the correct stripper and brightener. Applied as directed and in the correct temperature range. One year later it looks like a 5 year old stained it, with chips and peels everywhere. Avoid at all costs!

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Looks good but.... I bought Olympic Elite at $43 a gallon expecting a great product. After 14 gallons(three times what the coverage said) I'm disappointed. The first time it rained there was absolutely no water beading. It looks great but I guess I will have to buy even more for any protection. I wish I had went with another product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Fantastic Coverage We bought this to stain the outside cedar siding on our house we purchased. The previous owners had let it deteriorate and had used a complicated 3 step process. The Olympic Elite Advanced cut it down to one coat/application to bring back the beauty of the house.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Fall Foliage Semi-Transparent In 2015 we applied fall foliage semi-transparent stain to our new pine logs. We loved it!! Now 2 years later, the ends that are exposed to weather have turned almost black. We've tried power washing and using chemicals to get it to come clean and we aren't having much luck. On the logs that we were able to get clean, we have reapplied a coat of the same stain and it is about 10 times darker. Not sure why. With the expense of the product, we expected it to maintain it's color for more than 2 years. It started turning after only one year. Very unfortunate because we really did like the color when it first went on.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from DRIFT Applied 1 coat last September to a 1 year old unstained treated wood deck. Cleaned with Olympic's best cleaner. Let dry 3 days. Used a premium 6" stain brush and applied to 2 boards at a time. Finished in two days then waited 4 more days before use. Over the very mild winter about a fourth of the stain has peeled off all boards except the small area under cover. Don't know what I'll do with it yet, but I've been waiting over a month for Lowes to have the Olympic rep contact me.

I was very pleased with the prior stain and bought the same brand again. If Home Depot carried this product again, I wouldn't have to travel 60 miles to Lowes. But the stain is worth the trip.

Painted 4 boards at a time. Problem is, each set of 4 boards looks like a different color. Question? How long do I have to wait before I can restain, and do I have to strip deck?

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Granite, Wenge This month marks 2 years since we applied Olympic Elite to our deck. It has been a very successful two years. We have cedar siding and for years we used semi-transparent cedar stain on the deck, but we decided to try solid colored stain for something different and to have a contrast with the siding. In my past experience, it didn't matter what brand of semi-transparent stain I applied, I'd get two years out of it before it didn't look so good any more. I couldn't find many reviews of this Olympic product back in 2015 but I decided to give it a try. So far I am very happy with the results; we will definitely be getting a third summer out of it. (Again, I don't expect miracles from ANY exterior stain or paint applied to a HORIZONTAL surface in a climate like Michigan's, so the fact that it looks so good after 2 years really surprises me.) We chose Granite for the main deck, and it looks spectacular. We have Andersen windows with TerraTone frames and the Granite color ties in very well. The stain provided full coverage of the boards, but some of the grain shows through, so it's obvious it's real wood, not just some composite. And this is just with plain old wolmanized lumber, nothing fancy. That said, we worked HARD to prepare these surfaces. Scrubbed them HARD with bleach-based deck cleaner. Sweaty, back-breaking work. (There's never anything easy about deck maintenance, is there?) The boards were largely down to raw wood when we applied the Olympic. I think we did 2 coats but I cannot really remember. In 2015, the boards were 16 years old and had been stripped and restained many times. They soaked up the stain beautifully. Application was very easy. I think we did a roller or pad, and then came behind quickly with a wide brush to fill it in. Two people make quick work of this task. Our deck gets HARD use. Full exposure to sun, no overhangs. Lots of heavy deck furniture getting rolled around and dragged. Lots of heavy planter pots. Lots of watering. Three German shepherds running around on it, fetching sticks. The Olympic stood up to it all. The attached photo was taken today, May 7, 2017. We liked the Granite so much, we decided to try Wenge, which is darker, on a couple of balconies on the back side of the house. Very happy with that, also. If you're looking for that chic DARK finish, you'll love Wenge. Basically reads as very dark gray or black. A great neutral. (I do wonder if it would hold too much heat in really hot climates, though, for bare feet.) Oh, another thing: the Granite color shows dirt. So I've had to clean the deck frequently. I use a bucket of deck cleaner water and a scrub brush. It has held up to repeated cleanings like that, and I'm scrubbing, not just running a mop around. (Decks are FILTHY!) I'll try to remember to report back in another year, when the stain is 3 years old. Everyone's deck and conditions are unique, but so far, this Olympic has exceeded our expectations. I do wonder if I can just touch it up when it starts wearing, or if I have to wait and strip it all down again?

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Mohagany Dried all splotchy. Looked like it was even when applied but once it dried there were roller marks and uneven spots even though we were careful. Now we have to sand it and stain again. Waste of money and time. It does however, repel water well.

We used a darker stain color and we're worried about streaks or not showing up correctly on green treated woods, but it worked nice! We are happy with how our deck turned out. We hope it stays this beautiful for awhile.
