Wood Staining - Step 3)

Prep Your Wood Surface

Tape off the surfaces of your deck or patio you don't want stained. Avoid staining in direct sunlight so the wood stain does not dry unevenly. Then get ready to apply wood stain!

Wood Staining - Step 4)

Apply Wood Stain

For even coverage, apply the wood stain to one board at a time. For best results, backbrush into the wood surface.

Wood Stain Transparency Guide

Clear Wood Finishes

Clear wood finishes & wood stains allow your wood to weather and gray naturally. Least protection, most woodgrain.

Transparent / Toner

Transparent wood stains add a slight hint of color that highlights the wood grain. Less protection, more woodgrain.

Semi-Transparent Stain

Semi-transparent wood stains provide rich color that allows wood grain and texture to show. More protection, less woodgrain.

Semi-Solid Stain

Semi-solid stains give the same rich color as semi-transparent, but hides more wood grain. More protection, least woodgrain.

Solid Color Stain

Solid Color Stain covers the woodgrain and accentuates the natural texture. Most protection, no woodgrain.

Deck Resurfacer

A deck resurfacer creates a new, safe, durable surface on worn or weathered wood or concrete.

Coverage

One gallon covers approximately 75 sq. ft. or 4.6 sq. meters in 2 coats per U.S. gallon or 3.78 Liters. Coverage figures do not include loss due to surface irregularities and porosity or material loss due to application method or mixing.*

*Two coats are required for this product.

Drying Time

Allow 6 hours for the first coat to dry before applying the second coat. Allow the final coat to dry 48 hours before foot traffic and 72 hours before replacing furniture or heavy objects. Drying times listed may vary depending on temperature, humidity, film build, color and air movement.
