Reviews
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Damaged my property We bought this product two years ago initially and painted the front porch and stairs and back deck with two coats. It looked great at first, almost like composite decking. By the second year it was beginning to peel off in several spots and, in many places, the dark brown color was beginning to look grey and weathered, so we bought another two gallons and put a second coat on the spots that were peeling and discolored. It was a really wet summer and we didn't have a long enough dry stretch to repaint the whole deck with a different product. Again, this summer, the paint was bubbling up and peeling off. When you pop the bubbles there is water inside. It's like it never adhered to the wood at all. And what's worse is that where the water seeped in and sat there the wood is now rotting. The whole front porch needs to be replaced. To be fair, we also used this product on the floor of a screened porch and on our basement stairs for traction and both of those areas have held up very well, but for outside use this product is not only useless but also causes damage. I see there was a class action lawsuit that closed last year. Would have been nice if Olympic pulled the product since we bought it after the lawsuit started and could have saved ourselves the money and headache to replace all the rotted wood.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Preparation is KEY! Otherwise...a waste of money! We have a deck that was replaced 3-4 years ago upstairs, as well as an 'original' deck downstairs. The downstairs deck was showing its age, but it wasn't rotten or falling apart. It had been painted many years ago, and it just looked horrible! So we searched for a resurfacer, and after reading reviews on Olympic Rescue It, we were skeptical. But here's my review. First off, plan on double the amount you'd need if you were painting. This stuff covers, but will absolutely require two coats! It also is very thick and will destroy the brushes and rollers you use. Application was super easy...but here's the kicker: You MUST wash, scrub, and power wash the entire surface and GIVE IT AT LEAST 48 HOURS to dry! If it rains, the clock starts over. We power washed and blasted most of the paint off below, as well as the dirt and build-up on both decks. We have about 2000 square feet to cover (steps, decks, etc.) so we had to be 100% sure. After waiting 48 hours (it was actually 72 hours), we began application. It went very quickly, but once it had dried (24 hours), it was obvious a second coat would be required. So the second coat went on much faster, and the results were amazing. It's now been a year, after a below-zero winter with ice and snow, and two mid-summer terms, and it has held up very well. The only thing we see is where sap from the upper deck wood is seeping out. It bubbles up on the surface, and you have to remove it with hot, soapy water and a scrub brush. Or, wait until it's REALLY cold, and it pops off easily. The paint has held up to deck furniture, dozens of guests walking around, numerous thunderstorms, ice storms, and hail storms. We will be touching it up this fall, as there are some wear spots on the steps and some raised parts that are very minimal, and very NORMAL. We're also replacing some of the screws, which will leave fresh holes--which this stuff fills easily. All in all, I'd say this was a great purchase. We bought 20 gallons, and we have about 4+ left over for "touch-ups" and other areas. At this point, the mother-in-law is looking to paint the deck around her pool with it, as well as the front porch of her 120 year-old house. PREPARATION. That's why 90% of these others failed. Don't get in a hurry. Don't skip steps. And be sure you wash with soap and a scrub brush, then power wash it well.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from NOT for CEDAR DECKS will NOT last I purchased this product a couple years ago, followed the steps. Our deck is 12' x 37' Cedar, southern exposure. Our stained deck got hot in the summer, we chose this path to be able to walk more comfortably on it. It worked great for 1 year, then the cracks popped up everywhere. Every single board is at least partially rotted. I have to replace the WHOLE deck. Even the top rail rotted, where some places I can pick out rot with my finger. The parts we left stain are just fine. TERRIBLE product for a Cedar Deck.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Horrible product I bought this product thinking I could get several more years out of my deck & it looked great when it was first put on by the next summer it was cracking peeling in 2 foot strips like it’s not even adhered to surface...the vertical surfaces all seem ok but ALL the horizontal surfaces are peeling in huge strips. My dad & my brother both used this in their decks also and theirs both did the same thing. This is a horrible product to be hunk of the money I spent on this makes me sick.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Cracking and peeling We bought this 4 years ago. We thought it was going to last for at least 5 years. However, last year it started peeling. Our deck looks awful! We followed instructions exactly as written. We will never use this product again. Our deck looks worse than when we started.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Do NOT buy this product We put 2 coats of this product on our deck 2 or 3 years ago, following the prep directions. If ANY water seeps in through a crack that develops over time, it will rot the wood. Now we are having to replace the entire 12'X18' deck.
